
David Sabourin, CFA - Director
David Sabourin has over 25 years of professional business valuation experience. Mr. Sabourin began his professional valuation career at Higgins, Marcus & Lovett, Inc., a business valuation firm based in Los Angeles, CA. While at Higgins, Marcus, & Lovett, Inc., David focused on the valuation of closely held businesses for a variety of tax compliance purposes. He currently serves as principal appraiser of California Valuation Group, LLC dba Business Enterprise Appraisal Company, a boutique financial advisory firm serving lower middle-market companies in the Los Angeles region. Mr. Sabourin is also a tax preparer for H&R Block’s Block Advisors division. Prior to his career in business valuation, Mr. Sabourin was employed as a financial analyst at Trust Company of the West (aka TCW Group, Inc.).
Mr. Sabourin graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, with an emphasis in Finance. He holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst ("CFA") from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts and is a member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles. Mr. Sabourin has also qualified as an enrolled agent (“EA”) able to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.
Mr. Sabourin primarily deals with the valuation of both closely held asset holding companies (Family Limited Partnerships, General Partnerships, and Limited Liability Companies) and operating companies (C corporations and S corporations) for estate and gift tax compliance purposes, strategic and management planning, mergers and acquisitions, and stock price establishment for purchase and sales purposes. Specific analyses include both enterprise-level valuations as well as majority and minority position appraisals, including the application of both discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability. His appraisal report formats include Summary Appraisal reports that meet the guidance established by the IRS for estate, gift, and charitable contribution purposes, and Restricted Appraisals for management planning and mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Sabourin has appraised businesses in many different industries, a partial list of which includes: real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, distribution (including food service wholesalers), restaurants, micro-chip design, trucking, automotive sales, property management, cold-storage, water softening, and water distribution utilities.
